The 'blue' jackal :
It was a dark midnight. A jackal from the forest, sneaked into the nearby town. He roamed around happily and came across: the washermen's bay.
The washermen had a tank in which they kept blue coloured water to dye the clothes whenever required.
The jackal, while moving around, fell into this tank full of this deep blue dye. The colour of his fur turned blue. However he came out from the tank and proceeded towards the forest as the morning approached.
'Blue' Jackal becomes the king :
The jackal was pleasantly surprised to discover that none could recognize him, not even the tigers! He told all the animals that he is an angel. All animals believed him and were afraid of him.
The jackal accepted their respects and became the king of animals. Everybody obeyed him. The jackal also conducted himself in a royal manner. He used to distribute food among his animals including the tigers before eating himself.
'King' kept himself away from jackal tribe :
Fearing recognition by his kith and kin, the jackal carefully avoided other jackals. So the jackals were sorry to be deprived of favours from their new king! As time passed. the jackal showed a hatred for his own folks. He started becoming friendlier with the tigers and used to spend more time with them. The jackals were the most hated animals in the eyes of the king.
An old jackal recognizes the 'blue' jackal :
Meanwhile, one of the old jackals could see through the blue colour of the new king. He said about his suspicion to other jackals who disbelieved him. Then the old jackal thought of an idea.
The kingly days are over for the 'blue' jackal :
One night while the king was holding his Darbar. the old jackal started howling " Hookkey Ho, Hookkey Ho ...." All other jackals also intuitivebly joined him "Hookkey Ho, Hookkey Ho ....". The king also joined the group and howled in chorus.
