BAD TEMPER CAN BE CURED BY PRACTICE

SHORT TEMPER

Short tempered Shobhan :

Shobhan was a young boy of seventeen years. He had a bad temper and used to get angry with everybody even for very small reasons. It had affected Shobhan's memory. He used to perform poorly in examinations.

His parents were very worried and thought it to be a psychological case. So they consulted psychiatrists and psychologists.

Shobhan's father gives nails to Shobhan :

One day Shobhan's father gave him a bag of nails and told him that whenever Shobhan lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the wall of the house. The first day Shobhan had driven 45 nails into the wall. . Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down.

"It is easier to hold temper" :

He discovered it was easier and better to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the wall.... Finally, the day came when Shobhan didn't lose his temper at all. Shobhan told his father about it.

Shabhan's father suggested that he should now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

Shabhan's performances improve drastically : The days passed. One day came when when all the nails were pulled out . He told his father about it. By this time, Shabhan's class performance had drastically improved. Often, he held the top position in his class.

Father explains ...

The father took his son by the hand and said, "You have done well my son, but look at the holes in the wall. The wall will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a deep scar in the minds of the people just like these marks on the wall. You can put a knife into a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one."

Friends are rare jewels :

The father continued, "Friends are very rare jewels indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend you their ears, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to you. Always exhibit your friends how much you care."
